Hello everyone...or no one. I'm not to sure about this blogging thing yet but I want to give it a shot. I have some pretty strong opinions about teams, sports, and players and felt like I needed a place to make those opinions public. I have a special interest in the Kentucky Wildcats (Men's Basketball and Football programs), Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Cubs, and New York Yankees, because I am a fan of those teams. There are a lot of players I am fans of and in the NBA I typically root for a team that has a UK player on it or a player I like (such as Kevin Durant or John Wall).
Let me start off with the sport that is by far my favorite, which is sad because I have only been a fan for the past 7 or 8 years opposed to being a fan of NFL and MLB my whole life, College Football!!!! So, here is how I see the year ending. For my Kentucky Wildcats, I think we beat either Tennessee or Florida this year and end one out of the two longest losing streaks to one team in the nation. I think we will win 7 or 8 games and make it to another bowl game! I think the two toughest teams in the nation this year are not in the SEC which would make it the first time since 2005 a SEC team didn't win the BCS Championship. So, I think either Oregon or Oklahoma will slip up in the season and Alabama will slide into the National Title game. One other thing I want to touch on in the world of College Football is the whole conference realignment thing. I am completely in favor of having "Super Conferences". In my opinion there should be 6 major conferences SEC, PAC 12, Big Ten, ACC, Big East, and Big 12. Each conference should have 16 teams, 8 on each division. I would personally like to see a playoff which mocks March Madness in a way that each of these conferences get one automatic bid and then the rest of the NCAA teams have to impress a selection committee to make a field of 16. You start playing in middle of December and play a round each week culminating in the middle of January at a Championship game that decides a clear National Champion. That's just how I see it!
On the NFL front, I don't like the idea of the owners and players fighting over 9 billion dollars and ticket prices still being a lot higher than they should be. I say owner's get 51% players get 48% and FANS get 1%!!!! The NFL obviously isn't going to write a check to each fan, but they could lower ticket prices slightly to ease the pain on our wallet when we travel to see our team play! I am glad the lock out is finally over and all this free-agency madness has begun. The only thing I don't care for is how the Colts hands are tied on their budget. Peyton showed how classy he is and proved to me why he is my favorite player in the NFL, by telling Jim Irsay to not pay him more than Brady and use that cap space to sign Addai and possibly some free agents. On what I think is going to happen at the end of the year...haha right now things don't look good for the Colts winning the Super Bowl but I will never say they can't. The Jet and Pats in the AFC have made the best move in free agency in my opinion and on the other side the Eagles are adding some pretty talented players to an already talented team. The Packers have done a good job on keeping their team together and stay relaxed in the offseason, plus, the get Ryan Grant and Jermichael Finley back which was lost early last year and they still won the Super Bowl. The Cardinals, Vikings, Seahawks and Dolphins have made some interesting moves and I am rooting for Kolb, McNabb, Sidney Rice, and Bush to do well for their new teams this year. I think the playoffs this year are going to be very unpredictable because of the lock-out so I will not even try to guess who will be in or who will win it this year. All I have to say is GO Colts!
Baseball is getting back to what makes it such a unique sport. It's not very exciting if you're not a true fan and sometimes if you are a true fan it still is kinda boring. I would be lying if I said I have watched an entire game on TV all year. That being said the game I did go to was great! I went to a Reds Marlins game earlier this summer and it looked like the Marlins were going to run away with the game as the Reds offense struggled. That all changed towards the end when the Reds eventually tied the game up and sent it into extras winning in the tenth in walk-off fashion! Probably the most exciting game I've been to and it didn't involve either of my favorite teams. I guess in my favorites I should have a special mention to the Reds because I have been to more Reds games than any other team mostly because it's the closest team to me.
For the NBA fans out there....I'm sorry. I'm sorry that you all have to go through the pain and suffering of the lock-out. I'm sorry that I won't be talking to much about the NBA on here because ever since the days of Jordan I can not find a reason to watch a full NBA regular season game. The playoffs are still hard to watch for me but maybe in time I will get back to loving the NBA. I doubt it though!
Thanks everyone for reading and I hope to keep you all entertained with my opinions and views on what is happening in the world of sports!
